There are plenty of problems surrounding cyber-bullying. Whether it's popularity vs. un-popularity to students just being bored online. I think the biggest one surrounding this issue is the amount of time students spend on the internet that triggers it all. In the article “If Your Kids are Awake, They’re probably Online” By Tamar Lewin it says the average young American spends practically every waking minute except for at school on their phone, computer, television or other electronic device, according to a study from Kaiser Family Foundation. Those ages 8 to 18 spend more than seven and a half hours a day with such devices. This is a lot of time that students spend online that could be a main cause to why they begin to cyber-bully and why it's a growing issue among our youth.
One of my thoughts was towards teachers enhancing educational technology in the classroom. We want more access to computers for learning but could that be a candidate for another conflict. If we want to integrate with technology media are we making it an easier target for these kids to be picked on. We aren’t going to be able to monitor all sites and even on websites that are made for students. There is a possible chance that students will take advantage and cyber bully through school based curriculum. There are always going to bullies in schools and children are going to become victims and enhancing technology in the classroom might be a sneaky way to get away with it. Students are already terrified about telling their parents, teachers or any adult that they are being picked on and most kids don’t want to admit that they are being cyber bullied.
